Description:
This is a fairly new group that has formed on the Johns Hopkins campus. The group is to promote and represent the Sikh Faith. It is created to promote awareness in the community and on campus.
The Sikh faith originated in India and while it is one of the younger religions with its origns starting with the first Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the late 1400s, it has close to 24 million followers.
Many Sikh men wear turbans which is a religous head covering. This easily identifies them as Sikh, however in recent years follows the tragic events of 9/11, many Sikhs have been beaten and killed because of their turban. The purpose of this group is to inform people of the religion, its origins and its beliefs.
The group is also formed to allow the Sikh students on campus to come together, pray and discuss issues concerning the religion. All students are welcome to join the group regardless of their faith.
Meeting Information:
Meetings are on Sunday at noon for prayers and discussion at the Interfaith Council.
