Description:
Sigma Gamma Rho was founded on November 12, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana by seven young educators. The group bcame an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929 when a charter was granted to the Alpha chapter at Butler University. Sigma Gamma Rho is the oonly sorority of the NPHC not founded at Howard University, but at a predominantly white university. The organization is devoted to sisterhood, scholarship and service.
